THE Walker farming family, from Dunsop Bridge, continued to dominate the 2015 store cattle show arena at Skipton Auction Mart, presenting another title winner at the annual autumn highlight for this year’s crop of suckled calves and over year store cattle with show potential.

Steven Walker led out the family’s latest victor, the first prize January, 2015-born home-bred British Blue-cross heifer.

It also proved the joint leading player on price, selling for £1,400 to Dylan and Nicky Townend, of Broughton, near Malton.

The Walkers were also responsible for the first prize 2014-born heifer, which also sold for joint top price of £1,400 to Malcolm Metcalfe, of Baldersby.

The same buyer also paid £1,240 for the third prize 2015-born steer, a pure-bred Limousin, from N Mayor, of Chorley.

The reserve championship fell to the first prize 2015-born Limousin-cross heifer from Jonathan Townley, of Nutta Farm, Clapham. It sold for £1,080 to Goole’s Ian Swales.

Mr Townley also sent out the second prizewinner in the same show class, which fell for £900 to show judge Mike Thuey, a commercial suckler cow breeder from Easingwold.

The Townends were themselves dual first prize winners in both show classes for 2015-born bulls. Their red rosette-winning Limousin and first-prize Blue bull were purchased by York farmers and butchers Stephen and Anthony Swales for £1,200 and £1,080.

The Swales also paid £1,120 for the second prize 2014 Limousin bull from Turner Farms in Holmfirth.

The third prize Limousin bull from Sandra Blades, of Carnforth, made £1,200 when joining Waterloo Farms in Melsonby, Richmond and the same buyers paid £1,060 for the second prize any other breed bull, a Charolais from the Walmsley family in Haverah Park, Harrogate.

Rob Matten, of Newsham, bought three red rosette winners – the first prize 2014-born Limousin steer from Fox Farms, in Withgill, Clitheroe, for £1,300, the first prize 2015-born any other breed bull, a Blonde, from Craig Schofield, of Cheadle, at £1,020, and the first prize 2015-born British Blue steer from Ian Rawlinson, of Marton, for £960.

Austwick mother and son Janet and James Huck sent out the first and second prize 2015-born any other breed heifers, both Blondes, which sold for £910 and £990 to, respectively, Charles and Richard Kitching, of Threshfield, and Bingley’s Keith Downs.

Fox Farms were also responsible for the second and third prize 2014-born Limousin-cross heifers, which both fell to Thompson Bros in Pickering for £1,380 and £1,300 respectively.
