THE Yorkshire Dales Society is offering two events in Skipton on Saturday, which are open to all.

Start with a bracing trek to the summit of Sharphaw, the local landmark, on a free easy to moderate four-mile walk.

Meet at the Craven Heifer Inn, just north of Skipton on the B6265, ready to set off at 10.30am.

Weather permitting there will be stunning views across the Aire Valley and up Wharfedale. Expect muddy conditions so bring wellingtons or stout boots and gaiters, plus warm and waterproof clothing. Accompanied children and well-behaved dogs on leads allowed.

If the weather is inclement, an alternative and interesting lower level walk will be taken through Skipton Woods looking at waterfalls, weirs and canals with a stunning view of Skipton Castle.

The circular walk lasts about two hours and there is no need to book.

Then, at 2.15pm, Dr George Ingle will give an illustrated talk on the Yorkshire Dales Textile Mills in St Andrew's Church Hall on Newmarket Street, Skipton.

There is a small charge of £3 for non-members, which will be refunded if you decide to join the society on the day. The event will end about 4pm.
