SKIPTON Auction Mart’s latest round of Saturday collective livestock, Agri-Trader and Craven Feather Auction sales were again well supported by both vendors and buyers alike.

In the Agri-Trader section, the ever-popular machinery sale produced the largest entry for many years, with the bottom car park almost full of good quality items. Leading prices included £2,500 for a Graham Edwards tri-axle cattle trailer.

In the grassland section, a transpread lime spreader made £3,100, a Krone tedder £1,700, a Krone rake KS 3.30/10 £1,300 and a Twose drum mower £900. A Krone 125 round baler also sold well, making £2,600 against an £800 reserve, while a Marshall 6 tonne tipping trailer made £1,800 against a reserve of £1,150.

Stone saw an exceptional trade, with all goods selling well above expectation. Two stone troughs measuring 6ft and 4ft achieved £820 and £650 respectively. Flag stones sold well to £400.

The reclamation and salvage section produced a healthy clearance rate and some strong prices. The highlight was a JCB hydraulic breaker, which sold for £300.

The monthly sale of 103 head of stirks, weaned calves and young store cattle saw steers generate the leading prices with a £855 high for a British Blue, with a Hereford next best at £770 and a Limousin top of £750. Heifers peaked at £805 twice for Limousin and Blonde-cross entries, while bulls sold to £420, again for a British Blue.

The bi-monthly Craven Feather Auction sale attracted a healthy entry of poultry, waterfowl, hatching eggs and equipment.

Some quality lots of poultry achieved pleasing prices, with a day’s high of £72 for a Light Sussex Bantam with chicks.
