A trio of Otley students are celebrating putting in a good showing at an inter-schools off-road cycling contest.

Prince Henry’s Grammar School pupils Jack Williams, Joe Howcroft and Tom Cullen all competed in the British Schools Cycling Association Yorkshire Cyclo-Cross Cycling Championships in Halifax.

Tom came sixth and Joe took seventh place in the Under 15s race, while Jack was seventh in the Under 14s competition.

Faculty Leader in ICT at Prince Henry’s and Crosstrax Cycle Team member Barry Mordue, who runs the school’s cycling club, said: “The boys really did the school proud.

“Cyclo-cross is a very physical sport and with all the recent rain the course was very muddy indeed.

“We have really been building cycling as a sport in school and it’s great to see the commitment these students have given to training and competing during such a difficult spring.”

The cycling group is one of more than 33 extra-curricular sports clubs that are run by staff, in lunch breaks and after school.
