UPPER Wharfedale School is celebrating some tremendous achievements in this year’s GCSE results.

Headteacher Andrew Taylor said: "We congratulate all our students on their hard work and commitment, which have now been rewarded. "Sixty per cent of our students achieved five or more A*-C grades including English and maths, an increase from last year’s results despite changes to BTEC accreditation and our own curriculum.

"At Upper Wharfedale School, we take pride in the progress made by our students rather than headline attainment figures, therefore we are particularly pleased with the fact that 85 per cent made at least expected progress in maths and 70 per cent in English – again, a significant improvement compared to last year and testimony to the dedication of the teaching and support staff.

"The vast majority of students have achieved the grades necessary for the next stage in their education, with some outstanding individual achievements and we wish them all well in their future studies."
