WEST Craven High School showcased its new building and refurbished classrooms during an open evening at the Barnoldswick school.

Musical performances, drama activities, a French café, multi-sensory experiences, quizzes and a mystery box game in the RE department kept prospective students and their families captivated.

The technology department encouraged the use of Photoshop to adapt celebrity pictures; and families could see the best of 21st century technology at work producing 3D printouts.

In the newly equipped food technology suite, students baked, decorated and tasted biscuits.

The newly refurbished science labs had a wide range of fun and interactive activities.

Fantastic Physics proved to be a hair raising experience for some as they took turns on the Van Der Graaf generator. They also saw balloons floating in mid-air without the help of helium and discovered how powerful a blast of air could be in a shooting gallery.

Triple Science pupils demonstrated Brilliant Biology - dissecting hearts, eyes and kidneys; and everyone was welcome to a pair of gloves to explore and learn more about how bodies work.

Cool Chemistry had flame tests where students were challenged to work out what was in the mystery liquids and oxygen and hydrogen tests showed how to make a fire burn and hydrogen pop to scare everyone.

"I would like to thank parents for their record attendance, to our very good school, where we were able to showcase our new wing and refurbished rooms," said headteacher Craig Baker. "We also thank parents for their positive comments about the school and our polite and well-mannered students."
