A NEW nursery has opened on the grounds of an Earby primary school.

Earby Springfield Primary School, on Bailey Street, officially opened a new nursery last Tuesday.

The modular building, which was designed by headteacher Dawn Liversidge, will serve the needs of local parents who have two and three-year-old children.

"There was a need in the local community," said Mrs Liversidge. "It's nice that the government grants have come in to provide childcare for two year olds and parents are pleased to access the provision earlier."

The nursery, which has two playrooms, opened last week providing eight morning and afternoon places and it will be able to offer up to 20 morning and afternoon places, depending on demand for the provision.

Joan Harling, who was a dinner lady at Earby Springfield for over 20 years, and Dorothy Bullock, who has worked as dinner lady for the past seven years, cut the ribbon to officially open the building.

"We invited them to cut the ribbon because these ladies have done a lot for the children of the village over the years," added Mrs Liversidge.
