KEY stage two pupils at Giggleswick Primary School have completed a cross-curricular textile project.

It involved producing a range of carefully-sewn fabric items, many of which were given as gifts to their parents and relatives.

Initially inspired by Greek patterns from history work about Ancient Greece, the pupils, aged from seven to 11, designed and embroidered decorative bookmarks during their weekly art, design and technology lessons.

They also researched and developed designs for fabric cases, which they then made, using a range of stitches. Their final products included cases for pencils, mobile phones, glasses, tablet devices and pens.

Year six pupil Nell Shepherd said: "It was a fun, creative project. I even invented my own ‘Nelly stitch’, which is a sort of looped feather stitch."
