WEST Craven High School, Barnoldswick, has said farewell to two senior members of staff.

Roy Barnes joined the staff in August, 1975, at the age of 23, as a history teacher and, over the years, progressed to head of history, head of year 10, assistant head of upper school, assistant head and assistant deputy head.

Eighteen months ago, Roy took a back seat from teaching to assist with other projects, including helping to prepare for Ofsted inspectors last year and more recently helping with the new build and refurbishment of the school.

Roy has fond memories of West Craven, including exchange visits with Grass Junior High School, Minnesota, in June 1993 and 1995.

Also leaving was Rob Townson, who has had a teaching career spanning 20 years, nine of which he has spent at West Craven.

During his teaching career, Mr Townson worked at four different schools. In 2005, he joined West Craven as head of mathematics and, for the past five years, has been a member of the senior leadership team, serving as director of quality assurance.

He has been involved in organising trips, both home and abroad, including skiing in Torgon, Switzerland, paint balling, and visits to the Trafford centre and Blackpool.

He has a busy retirement planned, which includes walking, hiking, cycling, geocaching, reading, painting, writing a book, skiing, DIY, tinkering with his car, gardening, property maintenance, cafes, holidays, bowling and visiting family.
