GRAND pianos, several stags heads and framed prints of HM the Queen are amongst the contents of Malsis School being sold at auction.

Following the closure of the independent school at the end of last year, both it and its entire contents are being sold by chartered surveyors, Eddisons of Leeds.

And while the Glusburn school and ground will be sold in a more traditional way, the contents are subject to an online auction taking place on Wednesday and Thursday.

The 1,400 lots include bunk beds, trophy boards and a variety of seating, including sofas and wooden benches.

They also include the entire contents of the headmaster's study, including an Elm coal shuttle, a football signed by Burnley FC and a standard lamp.

Meanwhile the school, which closed following a failed merger with Giggleswick School, is attracting interest from a number of potential buyers.

It features a Grade two listed building and 32 acres of land, including playing fields, outbuildings, a small golf course and lake.

John Padgett, from Eddisons, said the firm was committed to finding an "appropriate" buyer for the site.

"This is a wonderful property within extensive grounds and we will be working as hard as we can to find a buyer who will be sympathetic to its history and respectful of the wishes of the local community," he said.

"A number of interests have already been registered.

"Any future alternative uses will be subject to planning and will need to be sensitive to the property's setting. It will be important, however, to secure a viable and economic use to protect the health of the buildings."

Jason Pinder, Eddison's director of machinery and business assets, added while it was sad to see the closure of the school, the history and variety of lots should produce a 'strong realisation for the creditors'.

Eddisons says it is also working to ensure the security of the site.
