PUPILS from Barnoldswick prepared for their GSCE exams by taking a trip out to hear poems being brought to life.

Twenty-four Year 10 literature students from West Craven High School travelled to Bridgewater Hall in Manchester to enjoy Poetry Live 2015.

The annual trip allowed the youngsters to listen to poets bring alive a selection of their own and others' poems from the AQA GCSE anthology Moon on the Tides.

Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, Gillian Clarke, Simon Armitage, Imtiaz Dharker, Grace Nichols and John Agard were among the poets who read a selection of their works.

In addition, students had the opportunity to acquire helpful exam tips on how to handle the unseen poem by chief examiner Tony Childs.

English teacher Gail Hargreaves said: “This yearly trip makes a real difference to those students studying literature, enabling them to understand some of the writers' thoughts, feelings and inspirations behind their poems."
