PLANNERS have rejected a bid by South Craven School to extend the hours of operation of its new sports air dome.

Approval was previously given by Craven District Council's planning committee for the planned dome to open from 8.30am-9pm on weekdays and 10am to 2pm on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays.

The school, in Cross Hills, wanted to vary these conditions so that the dome would open to 10pm on weekdays, 9am to 5pm on Saturdays and 10.30am to 5pm on Bank Holidays.

But councillors said they could see no reason to change the hours before the dome, to be built on old tennis courts, was even operating.

Resident David Ackroyd told the meeting that the school's neighbours were concerned about the increase in levels of activity and noise pollution that the dome would bring.
