D'YE ken what's been happening at Eastburn Junior and Infant School?

Class two pupils enjoyed a Scottish-themed day to celebrate a topic on the Katie Morag stories.

The children dressed in tartan or as characters from the books, made origami Loch Ness monsters, learned about St Andrew, created their own tartans and tried their hand at weaving.

The classroom was transformed into a ship bound for the Isle of Struay, where the stories are based, and each child had to produce a boarding pass to gain entry.

A school spokesman said the project had been a huge success, with the topic also featuring in geography and English classes.

"Throughout the half-term the children had been learning about contrasting localities – comparing Eastburn to the Isle of Coll, setting for the Isle of Struay – and looking in detail at the characters from the story," she said.

"They also learned the Alloway Kirk Rant in country dancing.

"This is the third year we have held a Scottish Day and each time it gets better and better."
