SIX students at Skipton Girls' High School are celebrating after receiving a CREST Communication and Context Prize at the prestigious National Science + Engineering Competition.

Megan Brennand, Alice Fortune, Clare Brumby, Grace Nixon, Emma Howard and Rachel Brown made it to the finals of the competition at The Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair.

They were among 450 young finalists chosen to showcase their work and they captured the judges' attention with their project using new 3D printing technology to help create exciting learning resources for physics lessons in schools.

As part of the prize, the girls will receive £100 and a certificate.

Megan said: “The National Science + Engineering Competition has taken me on an amazing journey. I always had my sights set on winning a big prize at The Big Bang Fair but it feels incredible to win the CREST Communication and Context Prize.

"The best and most important discoveries and inventions are down to science and engineering and this contest has helped me to realise that I want to be a part of that in the future.”

Imran Khan, chief executive of the British Science Association, which runs the competition, said: “We’re thrilled that Megan, Alice, Clare, Grace, Emma and Rachel’s project has been awarded this prestigious honour at The Big Bang Fair this year.

"Their project really caught our imagination and we hope that they will inspire other young people to enter the National Science + Engineering Competition."
