STAFF fromSouth Craven School set off on their own Tour only days after the Grand Depart.

The 25 members of staff cycled into school in four “pelotons".

They had earlier met at rendezvous points in Skipton, Keighley, Wharfedale and along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal.

A school spokesman said the staff had spent several months before the Tour de France working towards their own ride.

She said: “Perhaps anticipating withdrawal symptoms after a weekend of all things cycling, the cyclists had been planning their own petit peloton.”

The ride, organised by Brian Greenfield, finished at the Cross Hills school where the cyclists were welcomed with balloons, flags and a mix of French and Yorkshire cuisine.

The riders raised a total of £1,000 for Cancer Research.
