SETTLE Rotary Club presented awards to the winners of its annual young writer and young artist competitions.

Meeting at the Boars Head, Long Preston, the club invited prominent members of the local community, senior staff from Settle schools and parents to the ceremony.

The results were: young writers, junior - 1 Sufyan Khan; intermediate - 1 Martha Watson, 2 Imogen McCabe, 3 Jamie Lewis; senior - 1 Aspen Pattinson, 2 Fred Price, 3 Sam Bolton; young artists, intermediate - 1 Phoebe Scott, 2 Zara Coultherd, 3 (joint) Molly Kellett and Gemma Darwin.

The theme of the competitions was a life-changing event, which gave much scope for imaginative interpretation, and the judges were most impressed with the standard.

There was an additional surprise for the young writers when it was announced that they had also won the next round - the Rotary District 1040 Young Writer competition.

The district certificates were presented by youth opportunities officer, Pat Taylor.
