SOUTH Craven School's plan to build a sports air dome on the site of four existing tennis courts is recommended for approval next week.

The planned 193ft by 127ft dark green and white dome is intended as a multi-purpose sports hall for both the school and the Cross Hills community.

An earlier scheme was refused by Craven District Council before it reached committee because of concerns including any wider community use. It is now before the planning committee with a recommendation by officers for approval.

It has raised concerns from Glusburn and Cross Hills Parish Council and ten letters from residents on the grounds of visual impact, light pollution, hours of use and the loss of trees. But, it has also received 90 letters of support.

Approval is recommended, subject to a community use agreement in consultation with Sport England.
