A GROUP that helps to improve public access and recreation in the Yorkshire Dales National Park is on the lookout for new members.

There are currently eight vacancies on the independent Yorkshire Dales Access Forum, which provides guidance and advice on ways to improve and manage public access and opportunities.

Mohammed Dhalech, access development officer for the national park, said: “The forum’s job is to work with individuals and organisations who live and work in the national park and those who use or visit the area for leisure and enjoyment and to advise on ways to improve access and recreation in this special place.

“This can be anything from looking at mobility issues to suggesting an upgrade of a specific footpath."

The forum meets three times a year, but some members also sit on a variety of advisory groups that meet regularly to consider specific issues.

Chairman Alistair Thompson said: “Access forums were set up to improve access in the countryside and to help resolve potential conflicts between those who own and work the land and the people who use it for recreation. For that reason, it is important that members have a range of interests that enable the forum to represent a balanced view.”

The deadline for applications is November 7 and anyone wanting more information should contact Mohammed Dhalech on 01969 652363, email accessforum@yorkshiredales.org.uk or visit yorkshiredales.org.uk/yda
