DO YOU know a young person that has made an exceptional contribution to Craven?

The Young Citizen of the Year Award will be given to a young person aged 11 to 25 who has made a positive difference in their community.

In 2013 Phoebe Robinson, 14, won the title at the Craven Community Champions Awards for her contribution to local journalism.

Phoebe is the youngest ever editor of the Cowling News, which has served the residents of the village for 35 years.

Phoebe has a very professional and mature outlook and provides an important service that keeps Cowling residents informed about local matters even if they have not got the internet or are isolated in their homes.

She has breathed new life into the Cowling News and keeps a keen eye on the editing and compiling process, liaising with other team members. Phoebe gives many hours of her time every month freely to this project and in doing so contributes to the cohesion and wellbeing of her local community.

If you know a young person who has done something exceptional or has gone the extra mile to make a positive contribution to Craven, why not nominate them for the Young Citizen of the Year Award?

The awards panel would be interested in knowing how your nominee has;

• Made a real impact within their community

• Shown exceptional commitment

• Brought people together from different backgrounds

• Inspired others by overcoming an obstacle or going beyond the call of duty.

The Coniston Hotel and Country Estate sponsors the Young Citizen of the Year Award and kindly provides the venue for the awards ceremony.

Louise Bolton, managing director of the Coniston Hotel, said: “The Young Citizen of the Year Award is something which we at the Coniston Hotel hold dear to our heart. Young people make a very important to contribution to Craven’s community and we wish to recognise this. We employ many young people and enjoy watching their development over the years.”

If you know a young person you think should win one of the awards or if you would like to nominate yourself, complete a nomination form by 5pm on September 5. Nomination forms are available from the Craven District Council website www.cravendc.gov.uk/communitychampions and from any Craven library or doctor’s surgery.
