A COUPLE who met when they both worked at Mark Nutter's Mill in Skipton celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary today.
Jack and Shirley Beresford, of Burnside Crescent, both lifelong residents of Skipton, got chatting at work - Jack was a weaver and Shirley a winder - and went on a date to the cinema in the town, leading to 60 years of marriage.
They married at Christ Church and went on to have four daughters, Diane, Elaine, Judith and Lynda. They now have 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
When Nutter's Mill closed down, Jack became a roofer with his brother's firm before retiring at the age of 60.
He is a keen crown green bowler and the couple will have a celebration for family and friends at Broughton Road Bowling Club.
And to what do they put down their long and happy marriage? Says Shirley: "There's no real secret - we've always rubbed along together well and just got on with things!"
