FOUR friends are to take on a gruelling coast-to-coast physical challenge which will boost Skipton special school Brooklands.

Skipton man Chris Clark has devised a cross-country route of more than 170 miles from Scarborough to Seascale which the group intend to complete in three days - running, walking, cycling and even kayaking across Lake Windermere.

And Chris, with friends Mark Lowten, Paul Wheeler and Joe Sylvester, will also be scaling Scafell Pike towards the end of the challenge.

They are trying to raise cash to buy a specially adapted bike for Brooklands pupils to use on the school's bike track.

Chris, 34, the son of Skipton town councillor Wendy Clark, said: "I put this route together myself so my friends know who to blame! We have all run marathons but this will undoubtedly be a real test. My mum is chair of governors at Brooklands so we wanted to do what we could to help."

The friends, who all met at school in Bedford and have taken part in the gruelling Tough Mudder event, are setting out from Scarborough on Thursday, October 2, and are asking people to sponsor them on justgiving.com/bikewalkkayak/
