EARBY'S Jennifer Beckwith was the lucky winner of Pendleside Hospice's annual car raffle.

Jennifer had the choice of choosing between the new Toyota Aygo or the £8,000 cash alternative.

After much deliberating, she chose the money as she does not drive and her husband, David, is happy with the car they already have.

Jennifer bought the lucky ticket at the Pendleside Hospice charity shop on Victoria Road, Earby, where she volunteers twice a week; a role she has enjoyed since the shop opened in October 2012.

Jennifer and David, who have lived in Earby since they married 52 years ago, have three sons, 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

“I am still a little shell shocked at the news," said Jennifer. "It really was a big surprise and I certainly didn’t expect to win when I bought my ticket.”

The cost of buying the car was covered by sponsors Alderson and Horan Funeral Services, Charter Walk Shopping Centre, Burnley and Pendle Freemasons, John Macadam Garages and Santa’s Pizza, which meant the raffle raised over £22,000 towards patient care.
