THOSE who gave their lives during the First World War were remembered at a flower festival at Church of St John the Evangelist, Langcliffe.
To tie in with the war theme, the war memorial was decked with flowers, poppies adorned the churchyard gates and, just before the building, there was a simple but moving display entitled The Army.
The sound of gunfire was heard in the church porch which had become an embodiment of trench warfare.
Once inside, there were 20 displays covering aspects of life in the forces and life on the home front. Many of the displays were sponsored by local people and businesses and were dedicated to the memory of family members who served in the conflict.
The Rev Stephen Dawson said there was a particularly moving display on the altar, which consisted of 11 matching candles - one for each of the fallen men from Langcliffe.
There was a full church at the preview, which included singing by Billy Arbour and his mum, Cheryl, and the festival concluded with a Songs of Praise service and an auction.
Thanks are extended to all arrangers, sponsors and visitors with special thanks to Kenneth Atkinson who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the success of the festival.
