A BARNOLDSWICK-based group that provides riding lessons for disabled riders held its second annual Prideathon fundraiser at the weekend.

A total of 48 riders saddled up on mechanical horse Pride from 8am Saturday to 8am Sunday to raise money for the Pendle Riding for the Disabled Association, which is run by Kate Bailey at her riding yard on Folly Lane.

The Pendle RDA held the 24-hour sponsored ride as the group is desperate need of funds.

"When we first started up in 1977, we decided not to charge our riders because at the time Pendle was a deprived area," said Kate. "We're probably the only disabled riding school in the country that doesn't make a charge."

Pendle RDA member Kelly Glynn added: "The group relies entirely on donations, which is why fundraisers like this are so important."

Last year, the group's first ever Prideathon raised £3,500 but the total from this year's event has yet to be calculated.

In addition to the sponsorships, a raffle, a Guess the name of the teddy competition and a Guess the amount of sweets in the jar competition were all part of the fundraising efforts. Rock bank Gin Pit also provided entertainment for the riders.

Pendle RDA thanked everyone who supported the event, for their generosity, kindness and pure spirit.
