ROAD repairs in the Ilkley area costing more than £75,000 in total are recommended for approval by councillors today (October 23), but extensive work proposed on Addingham's Main Street could miss out.

Bradford Council's Keighley Area Committee is today expected to today approve a programme of works for the constituency in the current financial year.

The Committee may only choose works up to the limit of the available budget of £230,000, and works on six streets in Ilkley and Addingham - costing a total of £75,500 are recommended by Council officers.

Among the schemes proposed is £33,000 worth of work on Denton Road, £25,000 on Victoria Road, and £7,500 on Westwood Drive in Ilkley.

But further schemes identified in the area, including a £65,000 resurfacing of Main Street in Addingham, plus £25,000 schemes on Ben Rhydding Road and £30,000 on Constable Road, have only made it onto a reserve list of work to be done.

Ilkley ward councillor, Anne Hawkesworth, is concerned not enough money has been made available to do all essential work.

She said: " The allocated budget for highways to Keighley is £230,000. This is for carriageway repairs, footway repairs, pothole patching - as you can see this to cover the whole of the constituency is not a huge amount.

"The officer report indicates that certain work should be done from "need". Failure to prioritise the schemes based upon condition and safety survey data will result in reduction in road safety conditions."

And she believes sharing out the number of roadworks schemes throughout the constituency has not worked.

"It quite clearly has meant a log jam of work needed in Ilkley," she added.

Schemes currently proposed by officers include work on Westwood Drive, Margerison Crescent, Ilkley Hall Park, Victoria Avenue and Denton Road in Ilkley, and Cockshott Place, in Addingham.

The reserve list of schemes drawn up by officers features nine more in Ilkley and Ben Rhydding, as well as work on Main Street in Addingham.

Proposed no waiting restrictions on Clifton Road in Ilkley will also be considered by Keighley Area Committee today.

Councillor officers are seeking approval to prepare and advertise a Traffic Regulation Order to prohibit waiting on lengths of Clifton Road and Lower Constable Road, Ilkley.
