PART of a former village Co-op has been given a new lease of life.

The building, in Station Road, Steeton, has been extensively refurbished.

From the early 20th century until the 1960s the site was occupied by the Co-op, after which it had numerous uses.

The building was divided into two premises, with No 29 now home to Imagine Hair and Beauty.

And one of two formerly empty office suites on the upper floors is occupied by Aire Valley Architects, which was involved in the refurbishment.

Imagine owners Marc and Louise Taylor said: "We are delighted with the project.

"It is very rewarding to revitalise an old building and particularly as it has been a personal family project.

"We feel we have been really successful in maintaining the character of the building, whilst also modernising it.

"The salon has also presented the opportunity for new jobs in the area. We are currently advertising for a hair stylist and in the future would like to offer an apprentice stylist opportunity."

The neighbouring part of the building, No 31, opened as The Beauty Nest earlier this year after its owner Christine Wilson carried out major renovations.
