RESIDENTS have been busy baking cakes and buns in preparation for this year's Barnoldswick Bake Off.

The fundraiser, which raised £3,400 in its first year in 2013, is being held from noon to 6pm on Saturday at the Rolls-Royce Leisure Club, on Skipton Road.

A large number of entrants will compete for prizes for best-looking cakes and buns in both adults' and children's sections.

Organisers are setting up the Barnoldswick Angels children’s charity and all money raised on the day will go to help poorly or disabled children in the Barnoldswick and West Craven area.

Proceeds from last year's event were divided between Operation Oliver and the Manchester Children's Hospital.

"The Great British Bake Off is nothing compared to Barnoldswick Bake Off," said Barnoldswick councillor Jennifer Purcell. "We've got some keen entrants to an event where everybody gets involved and has some fun."

In addition to cake judging (based on appearance), the day will feature children's Halloween disco, fancy dress competition, face painting, a tombola, raffle and cake stalls. Local artists will perform live later in the afternoon.

First prize in the adults section is a weekend away at the Alma Inn, Laneshaw Bridge. Second prize is a voucher for a meal at Mario's Restaurant and Pizzeria, Barnoldswick, and the third place prize is a voucher for a meal at the Tempest Arms, Elslack.

In the children's category, youngsters will compete for a first prize of a family ticket entry to Thornton Hall Farm. An Argos voucher will be the second place prize and the third place prize has yet to be decided.
