BARNOLDSWICK Gilbert and Sullivan Society will be back in action next week.

And members are urging the public to go along to their concert in the town's civic hall in an effort to safeguard the future of the building.

Society spokesman Dorothy Dawes said: "Earlier in the year we were not sure whether the concert would be performed, owing to the threat of the closure of Barnoldswick Civic Hall.

"The society is asking for your support for this concert, as it will be a case in future of 'use it or lose it' as far as the Civic Hall is concerned. The hall is of great value to the community and is the only venue where a concert such as this could be staged."

Called a Pleasure to Sing, the concert has a varied programme, including excerpts from Gilbert and Sullivan operattas, as well as musicals Carousel, Oklahoma, Mr Fair Lady and Spamalot.

And once again, the society will be joined by young dancers, who have been so popular with audiences in the past.

There will be three performances - next Thursday, Friday and Saturday - with curtains rising at 7.30pm.

Tickets can be ordered from Brian Haworth on 01282 815724 or purchased on the door.
