A PERMANENT memorial to the men from Long Preston who died in the First World War was unveiled in the village hall on Saturday.
The memorial, with photographs of each of the 15 men who died, was unveiled by village hall chairman Stewart Robertshaw.
Also present was Stephen Ward, whose grandfather, William Ward, was headteacher at Long Preston School prior to being called up. He was killed in action on June 27, 1918.
The unveiling was followed by a screening of War Horse, which was attended by about 50 people.
The events formed part of Long Preston Heritage Group’s First World War project, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
