GIGGLESWICK School students Catherine Mills, Miriam Lord and Kim Yin have all won places at Oxford University.

Subject to meeting their A level grade conditions, Catherine will read chemistry at Pembroke College and Miriam will study biological sciences at Lady Margaret Hall.

Kim took her A levels last summer achieving an A* in Maths, A* in Chemistry and A in Physics and so is set to go to Lincoln College in September to read engineering.

This year there were a record nine Oxbridge applicants – 14 per cent of the Upper Sixth - seven of whom were offered an interview, no mean achievement in itself.

“We are delighted for students who have received offers from Oxford," said headmaster Mark Turnbull. “Competition for places is fierce and success is achieved through considerable thought and preparation by the candidates.

"Such a process inevitably leaves some disappointed but I am impressed by all those who have the ambition and motivation to take on such a challenge.”

While Kim joined Giggleswick sixth form from her native China, Miriam, from Settle, has been at Giggleswick since year seven and Catherine, from Giggleswick, is in her 15th year having joined the school in the nursery.
