THE latest employment figures, from the Office for National Statistics, reveal that Craven is still one of the best places in the country to find work.

The jobless rate for the district, for people aged between 16 and 64, was recorded at 3.8 per cent between October 2013 and September 2014.

Comparisons with people seeking work countrywide show 8.1 per cent in the Yorkshire and Humber region and 10 per cent in the country as a whole.

Craven has a large percentage of self-employed people numbering 9,000 representing 24.7 of those in work. In Yorkshire and Humber that stands at 8.4 per cent and ten per cent in Great Britain .

Julia Davis, partnership and employer relations manager for the Department of Work and Pensions, said: "We are pleased to see the unemployment level in Craven is continuing to fall again year on year.

"As we approach Easter and the tourist season commences we are encouraged to see more locally advertised vacancies becoming available, we are working hard with local employers and training organisations to secure opportunities to further support our jobseekers back into work."
