TWENTY-FIVE people took part in Barnoldswick in Bloom’s community action day on Sunday.

One team carried out planting in the Memorial Gardens whilst a second group litter picked nearby areas including the Rainhall Road car park.

Hundreds of bulbs were planted at the gardens, including flowering snowdrops, together with two hedges.

Litter pickers collected over one-and-a-half cubic metres of rubbish which included three traffic cones, two lengths of underground gas pipe and a sofa.

Worsening weather during the early afternoon halted work and volunteers warmed up with homemade soup.

Planting work will continue at the Memorial Gardens as weather and ground conditions allow.
