A RETIRING church treasurer in Earby has been recognised for her long service.

Hilda Jopson, a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church who had served as treasurer for Earby and District Churches Together for 21 years, has retired and was lauded for her efforts at a recent Churches Together AGM.

In her speech, Hilda remarked she has seen good times and some rocky ones in the financial fortunes of Churches Together.

She will be succeeded by Brendan O'Donoghue of St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Earby. He has a background in finance. Hilda was acclaimed by all present for her generous and gracious long service and Brendan was warmly welcomed.

Prior to the presentation, Rosemary Biggin and her helpers served a two-course meal to members at the meeting.

Those attending then heard Helen McVey, the chief executive of Pendleside Hospice, give a full and moving account of the work the hospice does for individuals and families in the community.
