A FINANCIAL advisor is getting on his bike to raise cash for charity.

Steeton man Alan Walsh is tackling the Paris Roubaix challenge, a gruelling 180km ride through France.

The route includes more than 50 kilometres on the region's renowned cobbled streets.

"I've been commuting the 17.5 miles from Steeton to my workplace in Burnley on my bike and spending my weekends tackling the cobbled streets of Haworth in preparation," he said.

"People who have completed the challenge in previous years tell me nothing compares to how tough it is on the day. It's going to be a real shock to the system!"

Mr Walsh, 30, is raising money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research after losing his sister, Paula, to the disease as a teenager.

Over the years, he and his family have supported the charity with a range of activities.

Mr Walsh completed the UK Iron Man challenge two years ago and, despite injury, ran the London Marathon to raise money.

And last year he and his wife Charlotte even turned their nuptials into a fundraiser, with a wedding fete and bar collection raising more than £1,000.
