SKIPTON Music Festival took to the road, travelling between various venues in the town due to ongoing work at the town hall.

Nearly 500 different entries in the 106 classes were enjoyed at Christ Church, St Andrew's, Skipton Girls' High School and Ermysted's Grammar School.

Secretary Jill Wright said: "As the final notes died away on Saturday night, we reflected on a tremendous week of music and activity, opened by a year three drama group from Water Street, through some outstanding instrumental performances from Rebecca Howlett and Patrick Naylor in the solo recital and ending with adult vocal classes and an excellent concert of 'all the best bits' from the week.

"The constant changing of venues brought a refreshing variety of scene and atmosphere, but the organisers don't want to move another music stand, A-board or set of certificates in their life!"

Selina Pickles - winner of the Whitaker Rosebowl in the songs from the shows class - was awarded the Grassington Festival Trophy for best stage presence while the judges awarded the Skipton Town Council Trophy for the most promising performer to Ben Finlay.
