YOUNG football players are over the moon after hitting the target to net themselves a brand new playing strip.

Members of Grassington Juniors FC are to get the new kit after collecting the most tokens in a super Craven Herald competition.

And it was a "real community effort" to bag the prize - worth up to £500 - said the team's coach Chris Gregson, who is landlord of the Fountaine Inn at Linton.

Chris said: "Obviously, we are absolutely delighted to win. I put a couple of notices up in the pub about the competition and people were coming from all over the bring in the tokens. We'd like to thank everyone who helped us - the community really got behind us."

He added that they have already been in contact with Skipton's MC Sports about possible designs in the team's blue and red and were looking forward to getting the strip very soon.

Thousands of tokens were collected by Herald readers in the competition, which was open to all sports teams in the area and ran throughout February.
