AS Barnoldswick gears up to take part in the national finals of Britain in Bloom, over 50 people took part in a big Spring Clean event last weekend.

Participants collected over 200 bags of rubbish from parks, open spaces, roadside verges and Stocks Beck.

The weekend was organised by Barnoldswick in Bloom to celebrate the beginning of spring as part of a national Tidy Britain Community Clear Up Day.

Marjorie Adams, chairman of Barnoldswick’s bloom group, said: “It was magnificent to see so many people tackling litter all around the town. It’s made a huge difference to the appearance of our town and people who took part can be very proud of themselves.

“Since January, when the litter picking movement really got going in Barnoldswick, there’s been a massive change to how the town and its approaches look. I’d like to say a very big thank you to everyone who’s helping.”

Barnoldswick in Bloom arrange mass community action days once a month and have ad-hoc activities most weeks.
