FOUR girls who attended Skipton Girls' High School have been presented with their gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award by the Duke of Edinburgh himself.
Emily Hinchcliffe, Isabelle Berrisford, Emily Cooke and Jenny Hutchinson travelled to London to receive their awards from Prince Philip at St James' Palace.
All four did their awards while at the high school under the guidance of local award manger Gordon Fothergill.
Each had to complete a service section, as well as physical and volunteering tasks. They also took part in a four-day, three-night expedition in Swaledale.
Mr Fothergill said: "It is no wonder that universities and prospective employers think highly of this award. It is almost looked upon as an extra A-level."
