A SKIPTON man recently released from prison headbutted two police officers called to settle a dispute at his mother's house, heard magistrates.

Timothy Carroll, 29, had argued with his brother at the house in Roughaw Road early on April 25 and had been ordered to leave by his mother, the Skipton court heard on Friday.

He told officers he had nowhere to go and annoyed at being denied a drink, became extremely violent and hostile, the court heard.

Prosecuting, Martin Butterworth, said Carroll had struggled with four officers and had to be restrained with Pava spray.

He continued to be violent, headbutted two officers on his way into a police van, which he also headbutted, and was taken to Harrogate Custody where he continued to be aggressive.

Mr Butterworth said one of the officers was headbutted to his head, and the other to his face, but neither caused injury and that it was more of a 'lashing out'.

In mitigation, Shiraz Hussain said Carroll, who admitted two counts of assaulting a police officer, had been aggrieved after trying but being stopped by officers to pick up a drink.

He claimed officers had also man handled him and had taken pictures of his injuries, including a black eye, to prove it.

Carroll, of Willow Way, had recently married, divided his time between his wife's and his mother's house and had just completed a detoxification programme with drugs and alcohol rehabilitation organisation, Skipton Horizons.

He had been jailed in 2009 for attempted robbery and shop theft, and was released in December last year.

Magistrates told him the offences had been serious, but they had taken into account his early guilty plea and that he had been attending Skipton Horizons.

He was fined £70 with costs of £85, surcharge of £20 and criminal court charge of £150. No order for compensation was made.
