VETERANS and dignitaries marked the start of Armed Forces Week with a flag-raising ceremony at Skipton Town Hall on Monday.
A special ‘Armed Forces Flag’ was raised in front of veterans from the Royal British Legion, including the women's section, The Duke of Wellington Regimental Association and the Royal Navy.
Craven District Council chairman, Councillor Robert Mason, hosted the event, which coincided with similar ceremonies across the UK.
The Armed Forces Week will conclude with a parade in the High Street on Sunday.
Armed forces representatives and veterans will gather in Otley Street at 3pm and march to the war memorial in High Street for the lowering of the flag.
"We'd love for people to support us this Sunday when we take the flag down," said Alex Bentley, chairman of the Skipton Royal British Legion.
Veterans had planned to march in the High Street last Sunday (June 21) for Armed Forces Day, but Mr Bentley said North Yorkshire County Council's closure of Newmarket Street meant the High Street could not be closed and festivities planned by the Royal British Legion could not go ahead.
