A MARATHON effort by an Embsay man kept visitors to last week's Great Yorkshire Show well supplied with scones - on behalf of the Women's Institute.

Trevor Kent baked for 12 hours a day for the three days of the show to keep the various catering stalls of the WI supplied as he has done for the past six years.

Trevor, of Pasture Road, who trained as a baker but worked for Yorkshire Electricity before taking early retirement 12 years ago, said: "I was baking almost non-stop for 12 hours a day. My record is 6,512 scones baked and sold over three days, and I didn't quite reach that this year. It's hard work but I love doing it."

Trevor's wife Cynthia is a WI advisor and he said he enjoyed doing what he could to help the organisation.
