CRAVEN children are being urged to keep active during the school summer holidays.

North Yorkshire County Council is supporting a national 10 Minute Shake Up campaign, run by Public Health England.

The initiative, aimed at five to 11 year olds, uses Disney characters to encourage children to get the recommended daily amount of physical activity.

County Councillor David Chance, portfolio holder for public health and prevention, said: "The summer holidays are long, which can be a real struggle for parents.

"This campaign aims to shake things up by providing helpful tools and inspiration to keep boredom at bay and encourage children to be active."

Participants receive a free pack including a team wristband with timer, activity cards and a poster with stickers to track activity.

There will also be online activities.

"Children need 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise a day and many are not as active as they should be," said Dr Lincoln Sargeant, director of public health for North Yorkshire.
