GARGRAVE people showed strong community spirit with a weekend of events for all the family.

Several gardens were opened, with visitors serenaded by a variety of musicians, including the Pinsuti singers, as they made their way around unseen corners of the village.

They were treated to not only traditional gardens, but secret and vegetable gardens - and all created by those with a passion in gardening.

And the annual duck race the day after saw hundreds crowd onto the Middle Green for an afternoon of entertainment.

Crowds were also treated to a fly-past by the Red Arrows - believed to have been performing at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The target of selling 1,500 yellow plastic ducks was met and a fantastic £2,500 was raised by the PTA, which will go towards much-needed outdoor play equipment for the school.

One of the organisers, Helen Oldfield, said: "We'd like to thank all who came and supported this weekend in Gargrave and all those who gave their time and efforts to making it so wonderful. Here's to next year's busy community weekend and we hope everyone will come along and join in again."
