PEOPLE across Airedale are being urged to ensure they stock-up with medication before the August Bank Holiday.

The advice was issued this week by the region's NHS, ahead of the August 31 holiday.

"As most GP surgeries will be closed that Monday we would encourage patients to order any medication they need in plenty of time so they have a good supply," said Geoff Day, regional head of co-commissioning for NHS England.

"It is also helpful to ensure you have a cabinet well stocked with items such as pain relief tablets, anti-diarrhoea medicine, plasters, bandages, antihistamines and antiseptic cream."

He said some pharmacies would be open on the Bank Holiday and could offer expert help.

"Pharmacists are highly trained and fully qualified to give advice on all sorts of health issues from coughs and breathing problems to bites and stings and sore throats," added Mr Day.

"They are often locally based and easy to access."
