A NEW exhibition will give local people the chance to have their work displayed at Skipton's Craven Museum and Gallery.

The Craven Open will run from October 24 to December 15.

And rather like the Royal Academy’s summer exhibition, artists are being invited to submit their work to a selection panel who will then choose which work will be exhibited at the museum, which is located in Skipton Town Hall.

The selection panel will consist of artists and gallery owners from outside the district.

Councillor Simon Myers, lead member for Enterprising Craven, said: “There are lots of thriving arts clubs, professional artists, students, painters and watercolourists in Craven and anyone over 16 can apply to enter, so long as they live or work here.

"This exhibition will showcase the talent of the district and I’m very much looking forward to seeing a wide range of entrants and subject matter on show in Craven Museum and Gallery. I hope that this new exhibition will encourage people to dust down their easels and get painting again."

The application process is online at cravendc.gov.uk/cravenopen and there is a £4 per item admission fee, with a maximum of three items. Photographs are not eligible unless they form part of a multimedia work, but other 2D work is acceptable, such as oils, acrylics, watercolours, charcoal, textiles and pencil. The work should not be more than than two years old.

The deadline for application is midnight on Monday, October 12.
