A BEST-SELLING author will be visiting libraries across Craven to discuss her critically-acclaimed novel which starts in the First World War.

Jo Baker will talk about her work The Picture Book as part of the Big Read project, and a free copy of the book, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, is available from libraries at Settle, Ingleton, Cross Hills, Barnoldswick and Skipton. They are given out on on a first-come, first-served basis.

Mrs Baker, who has written several other novels, said: “I’m very much looking forward to touring the Dales and meeting readers across Craven to talk about the book and the legacies of the First World War, which, I believe, still resonate with us today.”

The Picture Book begins at Gallipoli in 1915, and follows one family’s fortunes throughout the 20th century to the present day.

The initiative is part of Craven and the First World War, a lottery-funded project. Places at the talks must be booked in advance, and there is a £2 charge to cover refreshments.

Mrs Baker will be at the following libraries: Settle, Wednesday, 2pm (tel 01609 534535); Ingleton, Wednesday, 7.30pm (01609 534504); Cross Hills, Monday, September 7, 6pm (01609 534502); Barnoldswick, Wednesday, September 9, 2pm (0300 1236703); and Skipton, Wednesday, September 9, 7.30pm (01609 534548).
