A SKIPTON pensioner died after a collision at a school in Barnoldswick.

Police were called at about 4.15pm on Monday after receiving reports of an accident on the car park of St Joseph’s RC Primary School, West Close Road.

A 78-year-old man was found with serious head injuries as a result of a collision with a VW Golf.

The man, from Skipton, was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital by ambulance but died from his injuries.

Lancashire Police said his family were by his side.

Specially-trained family liaison officers are supporting the deceased’s family and staff at the school.

Sgt Adam Dawson, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “This was a tragic incident which has cost a man his life and we aren’t looking to speak to anyone else in relation to it.

“Both myself and the headteacher Mrs (Natalie) Wood would like to offer our condolences and to thank staff and local residents for their support at this difficult time.”

The school is closed today.
