THE thoughts of the people of Craven are with the citizens of Paris and France, said the chief executive of Craven District Council.

Following terror attacks on the French capital, Paul Shevlin said: “We have all been shocked to see the events in Paris. We know atrocities regularly happen across the globe but an attack like this on innocent people so close to home affects all of us.

He said leaders of the Leeds City Region, which includes Craven, had written to the Paris Mayor expressing condolences, support and solidarity to the people of the capital and to the whole of France.

He added: “It’s also important at a time like this that we recognise that these terrorists who carry out such dreadful acts have nothing in common with the Muslim members of our communities, who contribute so much to our country. The terrorists aim to create a climate of fear and division and we must not allow them to disrupt our culture of tolerance and peace.”
