CROSS HILLS accordion players will again host an annual music festival and competition in Bingley.

Craven Accordion Orchestra members will welcome dozens of musicians to the Yorkshire Music Festival and North Central Area Accordion Championships.

There will be classes for accordion, piano and guitar on Saturday at Beckfoot School.

Orchestra leader Harry Hinchcliffe said the festival was now in its 20 consecutive year.

He said: “It has grown over the years providing a platform for musicians to experience the art of playing live music at their respective level.

“The festival will host children and adults playing for the first time to musicians studying to be concert artists of the future.”

The adjudicators include Thom Hardaker, who studied from the age of six with Harry Hinchcliffe at the Craven School at Music then became UK champion.

As a teenager he studied with accordion maestro Professor Oleg Sharov at the Rimsky Korsakov Conservatory of Music in Russia and last year achieved a doctorate in musical arts.

Thom will give a recital during the awards ceremony on Saturday.
