WORK has started to protect homes near Ginnel Mews in Skipton from being engulfed by flood waters.
The Environment Agency is to heighten Waller Hill Beck retaining wall by three meters, re-align a footbridge and construct a new wall to protect nearby homes.
It is part of the £13 million Skipton Flood Alleviation Scheme which includes building two giant flood storage reservoirs and constructing flood defences at three other locations within the town centre.
Project manager, Jenny Cooke, said: "It is great to start this project. It is part of a wider scheme to protect 500 properties and businesses in Skipton from flooding."
